November found NUCA members and guests out at the fabulous Crooked 8 event center for the second annual Cornhole Tournament, a highly anticipated event that brought together enthusiasts from throughout the excavation industry. The atmosphere was electric as over 50 skilled (and some less skilled) bag tossers gathered, each eager to showcase their throwing prowess, while several enthusiastic spectators cheered on their favorite teams. The excitement was palpable, with friendly rivalries sparking laughter and camaraderie throughout the evening.
Chili Cook-Off Showdown
Adding to the festive spirit was our wonderful Chili Cook-Off, where participants showcased their culinary talents in a quest for the title of best chili recipe. Among the contenders was Jacob Studer from Travelers Insurance, whose chili was a crowd favorite. He faced off against NUCA Southern Idaho's own Executive Director, Sheri Nowlan, a well-known chili expert whose recipes have garnered acclaim from various chili enthusiasts. The aroma of simmering spices filled the air as attendees sampled each entry, making the decision a delicious challenge.
A Night of Networking and Fun

We were thrilled to welcome all the participants to Crooked 8 for an evening filled with networking opportunities and friendly competition. As teams battled it out on the cornhole boards, the sound of bags hitting the boards and cheers from the crowd created an atmosphere of excitement and community. There was plenty of playful heckling among teams, adding to the lighthearted nature of the tournament. The camaraderie fostered during the event was a testament to the strong bonds within the NUCA community.
Celebrating the Champions
As the tournament progressed, bags were flying and bragging rights were on the line at NUCA Southern Idaho’s Cornhole Tournament! 🏆 Taking home 1st place with ice in their veins were Cory Oswald and Nate Pena of Core & Main, tossing their way to the top like true board bosses. Sliding into 2nd place were Jaden Mason and Charlie Powell from Vermeer, who kept the pressure on all night with some seriously smooth throws. Claiming 3rd place honors, Nick Popma and Patrick Casabonne of Post Insurance proved they came to compete, while Brady Nowlan of Gulley Excavation and Braxton Hardy from Ferguson rounded out the leaderboard with a solid 4th place finish. From airmails to clutch cancellations, it was a tournament full of great shots, great company, and even greater bragging rights! 🎯 We look forward to next year’s event, where we can continue to build on this wonderful tradition of fun, networking, and cornhole!
